I found that I had an aptitude and a genuine enjoyment for massage by working on my friends and family the year before I began formal training at Los Angeles Vocational Institute. I began my first few hours at what used to be Touch Therapy Institute but the need for a more flexible schedule led me to LAVI. It was a perfect fit. I thoroughly enjoyed their program and my instructors not only comprehensively informed me with technical knowledge, but they inspired me with their commitment to bodywork. My time there was an invaluable experience, one that has been a guide for my own teaching style today.
I come from a family of Registered Nurses; my first and favorite books were medical books. As a former gymnast, I have always been conscious of the human body from the inside out and what it can do. I believe that good bodywork requires a firm grasp of Anatomy and Physiology. In teaching others what I have learned, I try to teach not only technique but the physical reasons and results behind the actions.
As Therapist’s I believe that it is our duty to be as informed, about the bodies that come under our care, as possible. A good foundation frees up the creative side so that we can provide our clients with the best solutions. Massage is tactile work. My class goals are to aid Therapists in engaging with all of their senses. Learning is fun and exciting for me, I try to make it so for those who have given me the privilege to impart to them a little of what I have experienced.
